Struggle of Empires takes place in the 18th century: a time of discovery and navigation, a period of colonization and the beginning of industrialization, also a time of constant wars in Europe and its distant colonies. You will assume the role of a leader of one of the 7 main powers of the Europe of the time and you will manage its army, its economy and political development to compete with your rival.

You will forge alliances, build armies and fleets, establish colonies, improve their technology, subsidize wars and control discontent among citizens. You will decide whether to expand in Europe or take control of colonies in America, Africa and the Far East. If you do well, your choices will lead you to victory. The game consists of 3 main wars, each lasting between 5 or 6 rounds depending on the number of players. Each War begins with the formation of two Grand Alliances between the major powers and represents a period of approximately two decades.

In each round of play you will perform 2 actions, and if possible, any number of free actions. At the end of each War, you will score points based on the relative number of power markers of each of the Major Powers in 11 regions of Europe and the colonies. Although military units can be used to capture or defend Control markers, they do not represent control in the region by themselves.

Your challenge will be to balance your military and economic needs. This Deluxe edition has new art, a new larger board, high quality cardboard components, new wooden components and a larger box to fit it all in. The rulebook has also been developed and improved, which clarifies rules and examples and incorporates some new ones.
