The western jewel of Islam had fallen to pieces. The small taifa emirs who inherited the once mighty Caliphate quarreled and fought, then paid the Christian lords Pariahs in gold to avoid fighting at all. Alfonso VI, Christian king of unified Leon and Castile, could now put his extorted dinars to work. He would assemble a great feudal host, not only to plunder, but to tear out the heart of Muslim Spain. He would seize the ancient Visigothic capital of Toledo and with it the great central plain to declare himself imperator of all Iberia.
Almoravid is a wargame about the tumultuous campaigns during the Reconquest of Spain. King Alfonso VI advances against the fractioned Muslim states (taifas) and the Almoravid empire intervenes with its African fundamentalist troops with the intention of forcing the Christians to withdraw indefinitely. This is the second volume of the Levy & Campaign Series depicting operational warfare in the Middle Ages.
Players will raise and equip their armies and send them out to devastate or conquer disputed territories and defeat enemy forces. Service obligations and alliances will provide a panoply of lords and vassals to serve in the campaign, but only for limited periods. Players must keep an eye on the calendar and reward lords to keep them in the field.
