High-stakes bets on race cars are in the millions of dollars. Frantic bets are made in secret even as the cars race around the track. And the winner gets the biggest amount of all. But in the world of motor racing, the margin between victory and defeat can be a single moment: a banked turn, tires screeching and spitting smoke, and the pressure, pushing you in your seat and keeping you on the track as you make your move on the inside to continue forward.
Downforce is a card betting and racing board game for two to six players based on Top Race, the award-winning design by the legendary Wolfgang Kramer.
Players first try to get all six cars in the race, then play cards from their hand to speed them around the track. However, most of the cards will also move their opponents' cars. So figuring out the right time to play a card is the key to victory.
Along the way, players place secret bets on who they think will win the race. Whoever has the most of their prize money, winning bets and remaining bank winnings is the winner of the game.
