As the first winner of the prestigious "Spiel of Jahres" award in 1979, "The Hare and the Tortoise" will always be considered one of the greatest modern classics.
It is a clever racing board game in which you must get rid of all the fuel (the carrots) before you cross the finish line. The further you move, the more carrots you spend and there are many ways to get more carrots throughout the race.
The game is designed so that chance plays virtually no part in the game and it is the cleverest player who wins the race.
At the beginning of the game, each player secretly bets on two of the five animals: the tortoise, the hare, the sheep, the wolf or the fox. Each turn, players play cards to move these animals, and depending on the combination of cards played, each animal moves more or less on the board.
