Spain, year 1936. General Franco and his troops advance through the different territories giving way to a long period of repression. Once the Spanish Civil War was over, a group of loyalists to the Republic decided to continue the armed struggle, forming resistance groups known as maquis. Hidden in the mountains, these men and women decided to risk their lives and fight in defense of the ideals of democracy and freedom. They were up against Franco's army, the Civil Guard and the Armed Police. The Maquis had perfected their guerrilla warfare in France during World War II and were determined to recover their homeland. In his head only echoed the desire of many compatriots: Resist!
Take on the role of the maquis and confront the Franco regime. During an indeterminate number of rounds, undertake increasingly difficult missions and obtain valuable victory points. It's up to you to decide how far you want to go, will you settle for eliminating a key target or will you resist until the end to free Spain from oppression? The fight begins.
resist! is a fast-paced solitaire card game in which you assume the role of the Spanish Maquis, fighting against the Franco regime. Over a series of rounds, increasingly difficult missions are carried out, and completing them earns you the points you need to win. If you fail to overcome the missions and enemies, you may lose. At the end of each round, you must choose whether to finish off the resistance or take a chance and undertake another mission.
At the beginning of the game, you assemble a team of twelve maquis, which are represented by a deck of cards. At the heart of the game is the tension between keeping your maquis hidden from Franco or revealing them to unleash their full potential. Unfortunately, revealed maquis are removed from your deck, and you probably won't be able to use them for the rest of the game. While Resist! has some minor deck-building elements, it is primarily a "deck-destroying" game in which you have to manage your deck, balancing the decision to defeat the immediate threat with trying to move on to the next mission.
