The great fire of 1666 has left London devastated. This is your chance to build a new city on the ashes of the old one, using the talents of London's inhabitants to do so.
will you favor business to earn more money, or will you prefer to spend more than you can afford on huge monuments and sumptuous palaces? You will also have to deal with the problem of growing poverty and provide jobs for the city's beggars. During the game you will be forced to make difficult decisions. To achieve one goal you will have to sacrifice another, leaving the door open to competitors.
In the board game London, players take on the role of prominent architects, charged with rebuilding London and guiding the city's development through the early 20th century. You will have to balance your vision, finances and the needs of the city's inhabitants if you aspire to be remembered as a London icon.
The game revolves around four main elements: buildings, money, land and poverty. Each of these elements influences the others, and affects your prestige. In your turn you will develop the city: buy land, gather resources or manage your part of the city, taking advantage of the area you have just developed. Although money will be needed for these purposes, it is not the aim of the game: only the most prestigious architect will be remembered.
Almost two hundred and fifty years of progress, famous buildings and monuments of the era, as well as improvements in engineering and industry, are illustrated on the cards. Knowing how and when to play them will be the key to winning the game, as they have two main benefits: the prestige they will give you at the end of the game, and the effect they trigger when activated. Some will even have a permanent effect, activated as long as the card is in play.
