Obsession is based on the rich stories that destiny brings us in Victorian life: shocking revelations, chilling tragedies, unbearable secrets, family dishonors. In Obsession, facing the twists of Victorian destiny is a historical... and tactical challenge.

Upstairs & Downstairs is an expansion that offers players new options to mitigate their fate. But, true to the spirit of the game, the mechanics are interconnected with the theme, specifically in the unique abilities of the new Servants: the Cook, the Butler, the Head Maid, and the Footman. Here is a small sample:

  • The Cook allows you to invite Visitors 1 or 2 levels above the Reputation indicated on your player board.
  • Place the Footman on any Improvement tile located in your Estate Organizer (only on tiles that you can play on your Family board), thus temporarily decreasing the Prestige Value of that tile by 1.
  • The Head Maid can be placed on an Improvement tile or on an Aristocracy card that contains an Invitation Favor, allowing you to Examine 1 additional card when inviting Visitors.
  • The Butler can be placed on an Aristocrat card that contains a Monetary Favor to increase the pounds you receive during the Obtain Favors phase of your turn.

In addition to 4 new Servants, Upstairs & Downstairs includes a new Family, the Howard Family, whose advantage is starting the game with a Cook. This additional Family allows for 5-player games and, along with the Wessex expansion, 6-player games.

This expansion also includes 33 new Aristocracy cards that increase the emphasis on second and third level Visitors, the heart and soul of the local nobility.
