boarding, buccaneers! Little Big Pirates is an adventure game on the high seas designed by Scott Almes that offers games of about 45 minutes to enjoy alone or with up to 4 players, from 14 years old.
The objective of the game is to become a legendary pirate captain, being the first to bury three treasures on the map. Throughout the game, players will form their crew and guide their fearsome pirate ship across seas and islands in search of fame and fortune. In turn, they will plunder settlements, sell booty to the black market, board ships or hide from the relentless royal navy.
The Little Big Pirates board is prepared with the 16 map cards, which once shuffled are randomly placed face up in a 4x4 grid. Each new game will have a different island map! On top of each card a search token is placed, which will grant benefits to the pirates who discover them. The market is also prepared, with the quotation of the 4 resources of the game: sugar, rum, coffee and gunpowder. As good pirates, you are expected to steal as many goods as you can and then sell them on the black market. The gold you obtain will be the gold you will bury to win the game.
Each player will have a ship figurehead, which he will move around the map, and two personal boards. One shows the legend level, which will increase as you win battles or sink merchant ships and will improve the speed of your ship and the power of its cannons. The second board shows the deck, where the crew works, and the helm, where the captain gives orders. On his turn, a player will move his ship and perform one of the actions shown on the helm: plunder, trade, crew, search, attack or hide. Not all actions will always be available and we will have to go to specific locations to do what we want to do. Planning your moves well can be the key to victory.
All in all... Be careful! Pirate life is full of dangers. If your ship runs into a storm, is boarded by another player or is captured by the royal navy, it will be tossed around and some or all of the crew will have to repair the damage. This means that you will not be able to help perform other actions... A timely retreat can be a victory! Little Big Pirates offers a good dose of entertainment within the reach of any type of gaming group. With easy to understand and very intuitive rules, it won't be difficult for you to understand the mechanics and start playing.
As usual in the family of great little games, we find a lot of components in a small box, which also has a great replayability thanks to the deck of crew cards and the variable preparation of the map. Hold tightly the helm of your pirate ship and live a great adventure to become a whole legend of the seven seas.
