The game takes us back to the European courts of the late 16th century, and the objective is to be the first to reach 31 points. Watch your backs... because the daggers fly!

In Regine, the interaction between players is constant, as most of the card effects act on the opponents' hands. Throughout the game, each player will seek the best combination to score points, but they won't always have control over their cards.

The intuitive design of the cards will allow you to learn how they work very quickly. And if you know how to play mus, some rules may seem familiar. Rounds are structured in 3 phases: hand-building, where players try to achieve a favorable combination of cards, betting, and resolution. To start, place the four scoring cards and the 32 betting tokens in the center of the table.

Shuffle the remaining 40 cards, deal 4 face down to each player, and leave the rest in the center of the table. Everything is ready to start the first phase! In turns, each player can take 3 actions, only once, in the preferred order. The first action is to exchange cards from their hand with cards from the central deck or announce "No changes," which blocks the option to change cards for the rest of the players. The second action is to play a card from the hand to form a combination. It can be played face down or face up. In the case of playing it face up, the card's effect is immediately applied. For example, the jester allows everyone to exchange cards with the central deck again; the peasant forces another player to choose a card from their hand and place it face up, applying its effect; the assassin removes a card from the table; the courtesan forces a face-down card to be turned face up; the trumpeter allows you to look at the central deck, and the knight forces another player to replace a card from their hand.

Finally, the third action that can be taken in this phase is to pass. When all players pass, any remaining cards in hand are placed face down, and the betting phase begins. Sharpen your wit, because it's time for bluffs! In turns, players will bet to accumulate points from the played cards. Points are scored for the maximum number of queens and jesters, for having pairs, two pairs, or triples, and for the sum of the values of the cards. Having a good hand isn't always necessary to score points! You can always make others believe that those facedown cards on the table have a certain value. In the final resolution phase, the combinations of all players are revealed, and the points are distributed. Rounds continue until someone reaches 31 points.

Good memory and a good dose of cunning will be your greatest allies in Regine, which guarantees fast-paced games and hours of fun. It will be enjoyed by both young and old (try playing with grandparents or in-laws who love cards, they'll quickly catch on), families, and friends. Just be cautious among knights and courtesans, so you don't end up with the wrong cards!
